Jerry A. Brooker Sr.
Jerry Alvin Brooker Sr., 72, of Blackshear, died early Sunday morning (March 13, 2016) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following a short illness.
A lifelong resident of Blackshear, he was born Dec. 1, 1943 to the late Lester Lloyd Brooker Sr. and Clara Lucille Altman Brooker. He was retired from Gold Kist Pecan Company as a warehouse foreman and from General Housing as a forklift operator. He was a member of Carters Chapel Church in Scuffletown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Ivey Brooker, a son, Dewayne Brooker, and six brothers, Lester Brooker, Lawrence Brooker, Leon Buddy Brooker, Jay Wayne Brooker, Cecil Brooker and Tommy Brooker.
Survivors include a son, Jerry A. Brooker Jr. (Helen Combee), of Waycross; two daughters, Tammy Brooker, of Waycross, and Melissa Brooker (Matt Cribbs), of Richmond Hill; eight grandchildren, Brandon Brooker, Shane Cribbs, Isaiah Brooker, Allie Brooker, Jessica Smith, Tonya Gill, D.J. Gill and Devlin Combee; a great-granddaughter, Emma Faye Cribbs; a brother, Carroll “C.A.” Brooker (wife, Joann), of Blackshear; a sister, Molly Brooker Harper (husband, Jimmy), of Tifton; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A graveside service will take place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Waters Cemetery in Blackshear. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the graveside.

Rufus West Carter, 85, died Sunday evening (March 13, 2016) at Hospice Satilla Hospice House after a brief illness.

Frances Maria Payne
Frances Maria Payne, 67, died at her residence Thursday (March 10, 2016) following an extended illness.
She was a native of Adel, but lived most of her life in Waycross. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Alphus Payne and Rubye Elizabeth Titshaw Payne, and a sister, Martha Walker.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Gash (husband, Michael), of Hamilton, N.J.; two granddaughters, Karen Gash and Angela Gash; a great-granddaughter, Riley Paskell; her former husband, Joseph Acerra, of Hamilton, N.J.; three sisters, Nan Cleveland, of Macon, Jann Mitchell, of Blackshear, and Jeanne Cote, of Dauphin, Pa.; her aunt, Martha Bobbitt, of Dublin; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Sunday at Music Funeral Home with Pastor Warren Christensen officiating.
Memorialization will be by cremation.

Cynthia Evette Boyd
Cynthia Evette Boyd, 53, of 175 Leeswood Circle, Brunswick, formerly of Blackshear, passed away Friday (March 11, 2016) at the residence of her daughter, PeTrina Dennis.
Several relatives were at her bedside during her transition.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her mother, Mrs. Jerry Dennis, 922 Wilford St., Waycross.

Rev. Sammy Chancey
OFFERMAN — A homegoing service for the Rev. Sammy Lee Chancey, 51, was held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at Offerman Baptist Church.
Officiating were the Rev. I.B. Boyette, the Rev. Tim Hall, the Rev. Don Patterson and the Rev. James Lightsey.
Brother Sammy preached his own funeral — by video — and reminded everyone how to get to where he is — Heaven.
Interment was in the Offerman Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Billy Branch, Timmy Buie, Timmy Liles, Jesse Hicks, Larry Greene, Darrell Crosby, Rudolph Daniels, Bill Alderman, Craig Floyd and Jack Tyre.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons from Golden Isles Baptist Church and Offerman Baptist Church.

BLACKSHEAR —The funeral for Shari Lynn Williams Harrison, 52, was held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating was Pastor Clinton Harris.
Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery.

BLACKSHEAR — The life of Charlotte Morrison Young, 65, was celebrated Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at First Baptist Church of Blackshear.
Officiating were Dr. Don Waters, Dr. Asit Jha, Peggy Wall, Dr. Porky Haynes and Mrs. Young’s husband, Dr. Bill Young.
Memorialization was by cremation.
