Barbara Moore Thrift
Barbara Moore Thrift, 72, died Thursday night (March 12, 2015) at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a native of Pearson and lived most of her life in Waycross before making her home in Brantley County for the past 34 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loyd J. Moore, and a daughter, Tammy Ketchem.
She attended Wacona High School and later took business education courses through Okefenokee Technical Institute. She was the office manager for Dr. Daniel B. Cox for many years.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, secretary of the Class of Love Sunday School Class, was a member of the church choir and also served on various church committees.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Roy Thrift, of Waycross; her children, Tina Shugart Kerr (husband. Bill). of Jacksonville, Fla., Terri S. Fletcher, of Waycross, Tina Dykes (husband, Walt), of Atkinson, Danny Thrift, of Atkinson, and Michelle Price, of Waycross; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Ciarimboli (Jeffrey), Jeremy Joiner (Jennifer), Kevin Ketchem (Stacey), Jason Ketchem, Heather Harrell (Corey), Alex Fletcher (Lindsay), Jamey Fletcher, Dylan Dykes (Tammy), Devin Dykes (Cecilia), Brittini Price and Lexi Price; 14 great-grandchildren; her mother, Zonie Lee Vaughan (husband, Tommy), of Blackshear; three brothers, Chuck “L.C.” Moore (wife, Debi), of Summerville, Roger Moore (wife, Gayle), of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alton Moore (wife, Lucille), of Byron; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 this evening at Music Funeral Home.
Members of the Class of Love Sunday Class and Adult Men’s Sunday School Class are asked to gather at the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Barbara Latrell Lewis
Barbara Latrell Lewis, 81, died Thursday (March 12, 2015) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross following an extended illness.
She was a native of Pierce County but lived most of her life in Ware County.
She was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the church choir.
She was a dietician with the Ware County School System and at First Baptist Church of Waycross for Wednesday night supper.
She was a daughter of the late Marvin Clinton Banks and Sylvia Gertrude Batten Banks, and was married to the late Rev. Omer Kenneth Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her son, Omer Kenneth Lewis Jr., and a sister, Christine Britt.
She is survived by a son, Ritchie Neil Lewis Sr. (wife, Sheila Hughes), of Waycross; four grandchildren, Ritchie Neil Lewis Jr., of Blackshear, Nicholas Cole Lewis, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Jayme Golden-Hogg, of Eglin, Fla., and Jesse Golden, of Yokosuka, Japan; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Hogg and Weston Hogg; a sister, Pauline Kimbrell (late husband, Don Kimbrell), of Waycross; two brothers, Wilton Banks (wife, Evelyn), of Waycross, and Thomas Banks (wife, Fosteen), of Waycross.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 5 until 7 o’clock.

Daniel “Dan” Robert Clark Jr., 70, died Dec. 7, 2014.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m. at the Waycross Salvation Army Church and Fellowship Hall, 401 Ethel St., Waycross.

Lane Gabriel Tonge
Lane Gabriel Tonge was born at 10:01 a.m. Wednesday (March 11, 2015) at UF Shands in Gainesville, Fla., and entered into Heaven later that afternoon.
He is survived by his parents, Josh and Lindsay Tonge, of St. Johns, Fla.; his sister, Landry, and brother, Luke; his paternal grandparents, Dave and Sharon Tonge, of Commerce, formerly of Waycross; and maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Marilyn Griffis, of Waycross; maternal great-grandparents, Rufus and DeLois Carter, of Blackshear, and the late Othel and Ava Dell Rowe, of Waycross; his aunts and uncles, Shane and Brittany Shook, Jeff and Amanda Stephens, Jon and Jessica Tonge, Joel and Lauren Tonge, and Joseph and Jessica Tonge; and his cousins, Maddox, Ava, Jackson, Carson, Hannah Claire, Sam, JT and Emery.
A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis in the Field Episcopal Church, 895 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The Rev. Michael Ellis and the Rev. Dr. Dave Tonge will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers are Shane Shook, Jon Tonge, Joel Tonge and Joseph Tonge.
Interment will follow in the cemetery of Ponte Vedra Valley, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. 32082.

Alphilee D. Dowling
Alphilee Dubberly Dowling, 81, died Friday morning (March 13, 2015) at Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
She was a born in Pierce County but lived most of her life in Waycross. She was employed with Ruben Brothers Shoe Factory for 33 years and was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Willie Dubberly and Lennie Watson Dubberly. She was married to the late Vernon P. Dowling and was also preceded in death by a sister, Darthell Turner, a great-granddaughter, Lynley Elese Watkins.
She is survived by two sons, Vernon Perry Dowling Jr. (wife, Vicky), of Folkston, and William Wesley Dowling (wife, Kim), of Waycross; four grandchildren, Kimberly Mitchell (husband, Ernie), of Kingsland, Trey Dowling, of Woodbine, Elese Dowling, of Waycross, and Wes Dowling, of Waycross; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Delmos Dubberly (wife, Charlene), of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Carthell Dubberly (wife, Janice), of Waycross, Shelby Griffin, of Waycross, Bud Dubberly (wife, Bonnie), of Douglasville, and Myra James (husband, the Rev. R.C.), of Mershon; a daughter-in-law, Beth Dowling, of St. Marys; her beloved pet, “Ginger;” and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m.

John Long
SNELLVILLE — John Long, 62, died Tuesday (March 10, 2015) at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville.
Visitation was held Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Mathis Funeral Home in Cochran.
He was born and lived most of his life in Twiggs County before moving to Snellville. He was the son Oscar and Earnestine White Long and was preceded in death by his brothers, James Long and Earl Long. He was retired.
Survivors are his wife, Debbie Long, of Snellville; children, Sharman Nix, Vicky (Mike) Reynolds, Jenny (Harl Satterfield) Britt, James Long and Sally (Tony) Brunell, of Waycross, Jonathan (Robin) Long and Tommy Wilkerson, of Eastman, and Michelle (Stevie) Burkett, of Thomaston; brothers, Ossie (Ellen) Long and Kenny (Dorothy) Long, of Cochran; sister-in-law, Janice Churchwell, of Snellville; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends at the home of Sally and Tony Brunell, 108 Butler St., Waycross, today at 3 p.m.

Franz M. Shelton Sr.
Franz Maurice Shelton, 44, died Friday morning (March 13, 2015) in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Waycross and was preceded in death by his father, Willie James Shelton. He was an employee of Simmons Mattress Company.
Survivors include a son, Franz Maurice Shelton Jr., of Waycross; his mother, Dorothy R. Sumner, of Waycross; brothers, James W. Shelton (Cynthia), of Lake Mary, Fla., and Kenneth L. Shelton (Tabitha), of Hopeville, N.C.; his grandmother, Lucy Shelton, of Waycross; and other relatives.
Friends are being received at his mother’s residence, 812 E. Waring St.

Mary Jewell Propes
HOMERVILLE — Mary Estelle Jewell Propes, 60, passed away Friday (March 13, 2015) at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness.
She was born March 9, 1955, in Homerville, to the late Levi Jewell and Mary Beckham Jewell. She attended University Boulevard Church of God and was a homemaker.
Survivors are her husband, David Propes, of Waycross; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Christopher Brazeale and Shirley and Billy Nettles, all of Waycross; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Theresa Jewell and Ronnie Propes, all of Waycross; one sister and brother-in-law, Willie Nell and Ricky Martin, of Waycross; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Jewell, Jack and Doreen Jewell, all of DuPont, and Preston Jewell, of Waycross; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at University Boulevard Church of God.
Interment will be in the Camp Branch Providence Cemetery in Manor.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be carried to the church one hour prior to the service.
