A Waycross man was arrested before daylight Sunday as he tried to break into a house in the 500 block of Bennett Road, said Brantley County Sheriff Jack Whisenant.
Stacy L. Taylor, 45, of Cecil Taylor Road, was taken into custody and charged with home invasion, burglary, criminal damage to property and possession of tools for commission of a crime, said Whisenant.
Deputy Carey Smoak responded to the residence in reference to a unknown man breaking into the house at about 5 a.m. Sunday, said Whisenant.
When Deputy Smoak arrived at the house, he saw Stacy holding a piece of metal trying to break a window to gain entry into the home, said Whisenant.
Windows and doors at the house were damaged and relatives of the woman who resides there responded to the scene before sun-up to hameer plywood in place where the damage had occurred, the sheriff said.
No one was injured, the sheriff said.
