ALMA — A Blackshear man was injured Tuesday when his truck went out of control and slammed into two trees on Carter Town Road near Johnson Lake Road, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Jon Albert Spell, 24, of Blackshear, was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for treatment of injuries he suffered in the 9:30 p.m. crash, said Donna Dismuke, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, Spell was northbound on Carter Town Road at a high rate of speed, said Dismuke.
He entered a right-hand curve and veered into the southbound lane, crossing that lane and continuing for 102 feet, leaving the roadway on the north shoulder. The truck continued on the north shoulder for another 65 feet, entered a ditch for 41 feet and then crossed Johnson Lake Road. The truck then rotated slightly and hit a tree with the right front, continuing north in the ditch before striking a second tree with the right side, said Dismuke.
Spell was not wearing a seatbelt but was not ejected from the truck, Dismuke said.
The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Gentry Mattox.
