WAYNESVILLE — A Nahunta man was injured Wednesday when his pickup truck hit the rear of a tractor trailer on the South Georgia Parkway near here, said the Georgia State Patrol.
James Blanton, 44, was taken by private vehicle to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of injuries suffered in the 4:23 p.m. accident, said Steve Drury, GSP Brunswick post secretary.
Driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, Blanton was westbound on the South Georgia Parkway in the outside lane, behind a 1995 White tractor trailer driven by Louis Gordy, 53, of Darien.
Drury said Gordy slowed to make a right turn into a private drive when Blanton’s truck hit the left rear of the trailer. Blanton’s truck continued through the grassy median for about 625 feet before coming to a stop. Gordy safely stopped on the private drive, Drury said.
Neither Gordy nor his passenger, Willie Whitfield, 66, of Waynesville, was injured, Drury said.
Blanton was charged with following too closely behind another vehicle, said Drury.
Gordy was cited for driving without a license and no tag on the vehicle, Drury said.
Trooper Chris Williams investigated the accident.
