A man charged with stealing clothes and toys that had belonged to Mattie Goble, a local girl who died of cancer after a courageous  battle that was followed with great interest by the public two years ago, will get his day in court next week.
Jury selection begins Monday for the trial of Thomas Wayne Crosby Jr., 36, of Waycross.
He was arrested in July 2014 and charged with the burglary of a house at 3945 Lynn Ave. Extension. He was accused of  stealing clothes, toys and other belongings of Mattie’s.
An indictment charges Crosby with entering the house between July 26 and Aug. 6. The true bill indictment was returned Oct. 30 by a Ware County grand jury.
Most of the clothing and other items were recovered, according to Ware County Sheriff’s Department officials.
“We should get finished with jury selection Monday,” said Crosby’s attorney John Thigpen Sr., of Blackshear. The trial could start Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, he reckoned.
Judge Mike DeVane will preside at trial. Assistant District Attorney Charles Watkins is to prosecute the case.
