A Waycross woman was found injured and unresponsive in a ditch in Clinch County Saturday by a deputy on patrol, but officials believe she is now OK, said a spokesman for the Clinch County Sheriff’s Department.
Joan Killough, 60, was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of her injuries, the spokesman said.
According to the report from Clinch County, she had a fractured nose and other injuries.
Sheriff Winston Peterson said there was an apparent crime scene at Killough’s residence in Waycross, but Waycross police said there is no criminal case.
Clinch Deputy Raymond Peterson was patrolling on Highway 122 in Clinch County when he saw a 2000 Acura on the side of the road and found the woman in a ditch.
Clinch officials said they joined with the Waycross Police Department in investigating and that blood was found at the woman’s home in Waycross where they believe she was involved in some kind of fight with another person.
A spokesman for the Waycross Police Department however said this morning that “there is nothing to the case” from the Waycross perspective, that it would never have been reported if the woman had not had a “medical issue” while driving to a friend’s house.
