Sylvia Nell Dawson
Sylvia Nell Moore Dawson, 64, of Niceville, Fla., passed away on Good Friday (April 3, 2015) after a long battle with cancer (Multiple Myeloma).
She was born in Waycross on Nov. 8, 1950. She graduated from Ware County High School in 1968. She earned a bachelor of science degree in health professions from South West Texas State University in 1983.
She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and was married to Larry Dawson in Japan in 1973. She worked as a dental hygienist for Niceville Family Dental Center for 13 years. She was a faithful member of Rocky Bayou Baptist Church for many years and volunteered her time at The Heights Tutoring Center and other church ministries.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Renzo and Irene Youmans Moore, of Waycross.
She is survived by her siblings, David R. Moore, of Dublin, Cecilia Turner (James), of Jacksonville, Kester A. Moore, of Brunswick, Cynthia Guinn (Jerome), of Kingsland, Zelda Howle, of Waycross, Kenneth R. Moore (Teresa), of LaGrange; her children, Esther Cast (Paul), and Stephen, both of Niceville, Fla.; her former husband, Larry Dawson, of Niceville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Crossroads Center Medical and Dental Clinic in Valparaiso, Fla.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at Ben James Church Cemetery in Pierce County.
James K. Prescott
James Kenneth Prescott, 78, of Waresboro, passed away Wednesday (June 17, 2015 at Mayo Clinic in Waycross.
He was born July 28, 1936, in Lake Butler, Fla., to the late Walker Prescott and Mary Russ Prescott. He served in the United States Air Force and was a tech sergeant at the time of his discharge.
He lived 35 years of his life in St. Augustine, Fla., and 10 years in Waresboro. To know him was to love him. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Virginia McCoy Prescott; two sons, Gary Prescott (Jackie) and Terry Prescott, both of Waresboro; four grandchildren, Tyler, Rebekah, Mike and Christina.
The funeral was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Archer Memorial Chapel with Brother Mike Norman officiating.
Burial took place following the funeral at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake City, Fla.
Arrangements were under the care of Archer Funeral Home, Lake Butler, Fla.
Sarah R. Swilley
Sarah R. Swilley, 76, of Waycross, died at Baptist Village Retirement Communities, Monday evening (June 22, 2015) after an extended illness.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
Mary Louise Hodge
BLACKSHEAR — The funeral for Mary Louise Ivey Hodge, 71, was held Monday morning at 11 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating was the Rev. R.B. Gaskins.
Interment was in the Foster Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Abie Dykes, Jessie Nowell, Charles Perigo, Christopher Nowell, Brandon Brooker and Adam Doublery.
Honorary pallbearers were Michelle Walker, all other Hospice Satilla employees and the staff of Pierce County Nursing Home.
Pearson-Dial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
