Larry Cox Sr.
Larry Earnest Cox Sr., 65, of Waycross, died Sunday evening (July 3, 2016) surrounded by his family at his daughter’s residence in Blackshear after an extended illness.
He was born in Homerville to the late Eally Earnest and Helen Ruth Dempsey Cox and lived in Waycross most of his life. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for many years, but in his spare time he loved to go fishing and camping and also enjoyed cooking out with his family. He attended Swamp Road Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Cox, of Blackshear; two daughters, Tonya Gladys Cox (significant other, Brian Voss), of Brantley County, Brandy Corbitt (Les), of Blackshear; three sons, Larry James “Jimbo” Cox (Connie), of Savannah, Larry Earnest Cox Jr. (Misty), of Waycross, Michael Tucker, of Tampa, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Dustin Cox, Brayden Cox, Katie Cox, Larry Sebastin Cox, Dallas Howard Cox, Jade Williams, Emily Corbitt, Erykka Corbitt, Leah Corbitt, Tommy Corbitt, Jayla Morgan, Dalton Tucker; a sister, Linda Cox Propes, of Waycross; a brother, Don Edward Cox Sr., (Barbara Fuller), of Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Debbie Cox, of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation.

The funeral for Gladys Bess, a longtime resident of Waycross, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, 1085 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross.
She died Wednesday (June 29, 2016) surrounded by her loving and devoted family at the Hospice of Savannah.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service.
Interment will be in Hazzard Hill Cemetery.
She was educated in the Atkinson County Public School System where she attended Atkinson County Training School. She met and married Willie Roy Bess Sr. on May 17, 1947. To this union seven children were born, five boys and two girls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Ellias and Rophenia Cooper Welch, grandparents, Cain and Florence Cooper, two sons, Willie Ron Bess Jr., and Dwight Carnell Bess Sr., and a twin infant brother, John Henry Cooper. Also reared as a sibling were Roosevelt Armstrong, Algertha Robbins and Gwendollyn Scott.
She was well respected, loved and cherished by the Canyon Community.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, the Rev. Ralph Bess (Faye), and Tommie Luther Bess, of Port Wentworth, Rickey DeWayne Bess (Ann), Cheryl Lynn (John) Kitchen and Winder Jean Strickland (John), of Waycross; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Otis Jewel Welch, of Waycross; also reared as siblings, Jake Armstrong, of Dallas, Texas, and Bernice Thrope, of Jersey City, N.J.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Ida B. Robertson
A graveside service for Ida Bernice Robertson, 84, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Hazzard Hill Cemetery with Pastor Linda Swift offering words of comfort.
She was born Sept. 1, 1931 in Abbeville (Wilcox County) to the late L.O. Benton and Rosa Chancy Benton.
She lived in Waycross most of her life and was a long time member of Big Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
She departed this life on Friday (July 1, 2016) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after an illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Robertson, five sisters and a brother.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Public visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home, 985 Ossie Davis Parkway.
Fluker Funeral Home is serving the family.
Zoie Mae D. Smith
BLACKSHEAR — The funeral for Zoie Mae Dixon Smith, 95, was held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating was her son, Porkey Smith.
Interment was in the Enon Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Harrison Barlow, Baxter Bradham, Nathan Horne, Kyle Moore, Kevin Moore and Austin Moore.
Pearson-Dial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
