Peggy Mixon Post
STATESBORO — Peggy Mixon Post, 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday (July 21, 2016).
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., she lived most of her adult life in Blackshear where she had been a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church. She lived in Statesboro for the past 10 years and was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church.
She was a caring, Christian lady who will be remembered as someone who loved Jesus, her family, who never met a stranger, had a smile for everyone and possessed a sweet, sweet spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Doris Davis Mixon, and her husband of 10 years, Denning S. Post, who passed away April 21, 2016, exactly three months prior.
Survivors include three brothers, John A. Mixon (Vicki), Orange Beach, Ala., Barry L. Mixon (Debbie), Troutville, Va., and Glenn E. Mixon (Joan), Blackshear; a twin sister, Penny Mixon Roberts (Larry), Lawrenceville; sister-in-law, Linda Cothren, Alma; brother-in-law, Wayne Post (Barbara), Milton, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebratory gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the the Rev. Julian Ward officiating.

Goldie Herrin
Goldie Herrin, 96, died Saturday morning (July 23, 2016) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 29, 1919 in Erwin, Tenn., to the late Dewey Frye and Virgie Young Frye. She retired from First Union Bank in Gainesville, Fla. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and the Golden Fellowship Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry E. Herrin, and one brother, Fred Frye.
Survivors include two sisters, Patsy Westberry and Volena Tipton, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Gene Frye, of Erwin, Tenn.; special friends, Sam and Becky Handlee, and Sandra Duncan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Entombment will be in Greenlawn Mausoleum.

James ‘Mike’ Mitchell
James Malcolm “Mike” Mitchell, 88, of Waycross, died Sunday morning (July 24, 2016) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

Ronnie J. Beverly
A funeral for Ronnie J. Beverly took place Saturday afternoon at High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Daniel Drawdy officiating.
Burial took place in High Bluff Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were Wesley Pittman, Shannon Beverly, Roy Beverly III, John Hilton Jr., Brady Mardany and Phillip Jordan.
Honorary pallbearer was Donald James.
Arrangements were with Music Funeral Home.

Carolyn May
A funeral for Carolyn May took place Saturday morning in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ashley Corbett officiating.
Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Sweat, Tommy Clifton, Lamar Christie, Charlie Bryson, Blake Guy, Curtis Campbell and Curtis Dubberly.

Doreen Sweeney-Thompson
A funeral for Doreen E. Sweeney-Thompson was held Friday afternoon at Whitehall Community Church with the Rev. Marlon Pittman and the Rev. Will Jacobs officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Wright, Wayne Komsi, Hunter Pitts, Rickey Pitts Jr., Jon Sweeney, Riley Sweeney, Tommy Sweeney and Keith Wright.
Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
