JESUP (AP) — A Jesup woman is charged with stealing money she collected for high school seniors to take a cruise.
News outlets report 45-year-old Jackie Dean was arrested on charges of racketeering and theft. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said she turned herself in Thursday at the Wayne County jail.
Authorities say Dean organized a cruise for dozens of graduating seniors at Wayne County High School and collected money for the trip. As the cruise’s departure date approached, some students found out their trips were never booked.
The GBI says it’s still investigating how how much money was taken. Students were able to take the cruise after community members and businesses helped pay for their tickets.
