Diane Dixon Purvis
Diane Dixon Purvis, 74, died Tuesday morning (Jan. 12, 2016) at Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear following an extended illness.
A native and life-long resident of Ware County, she was the wife of the late Herman Leroy Purvis and daughter of the late James Nolan Dixon and Leona Thrift Dixon.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Drew Purvis, her sisters, Sarah Taylor, and Betty Bennett, and her brothers, Rubin Dixon, Red Dixon, James L. Dixon and Rufus Thrift.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Booth, of Waycross; two grandchildren, Alyssa Booth (Chris Nail) and Joshua Booth (Emily), of Waycross; three great-grandchildren, Lilly Nail, Haylee Music and James Music; sisters, Vernell Dixon Sweat, of Flowery Branch, Flora Dell Dixon Hunt, of Dolgeville, N.Y., Nancy Thrift Williams, of Lawrenceville; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Everett Lee Gill Jr.
Everett Lee Gill Jr., 60, of Offerman, passed away Monday afternoon (Jan. 11, 2016) at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Waycross following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Blackshear, Aug. 13, 1955, he lived in Offerman all of his life. He was a logger-truck driver for Pierce Timber Company and was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and talking to friends at the Flash Foods Coffee Club in Patterson. He dearly loved his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was a son of the late Everett Lee Gill Sr. and Sallie Grace Thomas Gill.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Donna Lee Strickland Gill, of Offerman; three daughters, Keshia Gill Hodgkin (husband, Jon), of Blackshear, Heather Gill, of Offerman, and Kimberly Gill (Justin Deloach), of Blackshear; two brothers, Randy Gill (Huiyon) and Lonnie Gill, all of Offerman; four grandchildren, Haydon Lee Hodgkin, Hannah Logan Hodgkin, Braely Grace Luke and Brooklyn Reese Deloach; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Offerman Cemetery.
Visitation will be held this evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.
The family kindly requests members of the Flash Foods Coffee Club in Patterson as well as the employees to serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

PATTERSON — Elouise Lee Johnson, 86, of Patterson, passed away Tuesday morning (Jan. 12, 2016) at her daughter’s residence.

Betty Strickland
BLACKSHEAR — A funeral for Betty Elizabeth Lackey Strickland, 90, was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating were Dr. Bill Young and Steve Boatright.
Interment was in the Twin Rivers Cemetery in Hortense.
Active pallbearers were Shannon Strickland, Jarrett Johns, Will Lane, William Smith, Scott Henning and Jason Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Alert Sunday School Class and the Classy Red Hatters.

Dorothy Ann Powell
BLACKSHEAR — A funeral for Dorothy Ann Martin Powell, 86, was held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Blackshear First Baptist Church.
Officiating was Dr. Bill Young and Steve Boatright.
Interment was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla., with her son-in-law, Louie Carlton, officiating.

A memorial service for Carolyn Herndon Taylor McClendon was held Tuesday evening at Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Van Spradley officiating.
