HORTENSE — Georgia Highway 32 in Brantley County will close Monday and remain closed for 120 days while the Little Satilla River overflow bridge is replaced, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The bridge location is 7 miles east of Patterson and 4 miles west of Hortense. The detour route will be: Laura Chapel Road, Trudie Road and U.S. 301.
Motorists can access residences in the area up to the work zone.
The Little Satilla River public boat ramp will be accessible from Georgia 32 for people traveling from Pierce County.
If the weather cooperates, the $2 million project is expected to be complete in the spring, said a DOT spokesman.
The bridge project will replace the current bridge built in 1967 with a newly constructed bridge designed to current safety standards with 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot emergency shoulders.
The detour allows the work to be completed twice as fast and save on construction cost by not changing the alignment of the bridges.
