A driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by Ware County Fire and Rescue personnel after a rear-end traffic accident Friday afternoon on State Street near Wacona Elementary School, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Jeffrey Michael Dennis, 38, of Waycross, Meagan Tyler, 20, of Blackshear, and a 5-year-old passenger in the Tyler vehicle, McKenci Padgeant, were transported to the local ER by Ware County EMS, Royal said.
He said Dennis complained of back pain, Tyler complained of leg pain and had a visible head injury, and Padgeant was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Dennis, traveling in a 2005 Honda Accord north on State Street, stopped at 5:49 p.m. waiting to turn left onto Elaine Avenue, Royal said. Tyler failed to stop in time and her 1997 GMC Sierra struck the rear of the Dennis car.
The Honda was thrust forward across the shoulder of the road and down a steep embankment, flipping over and coming to rest upright, Royal said. He had to be extricated by firefighters using Hurst “Jaws of Life” hydraulics.
Witnesses said the wreck blocked the road, creating quite a logjam of traffic.
The accident was investigated by the Georgia State Patrol, though no one with the GSP had access to a report this morning. Trooper Sherman McClane was assisted by Ware County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Pittman.
