Drivers of four vehicles involved in a Wednesday afternoon traffic accident on U.S. 82 were injured, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
Jill Bowen, 77, of Tifton, was treated and transported by Ware County EMS to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for injuries as a result of the 2:28 p.m. four-way collision, Cox said. She was then flown from Mayo via AirEvac to Savannah’s Memorial Medical Center.
The other drivers, Niruben Patel, 41, of Waycross, Ashton Stripling, 30, of Brunswick, and Curtis McCullough, 27, of Palmetto, were all transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of injuries, Cox said.
The 2015 Ford Expedition of Bowen, Patel’s 2005 Toyota Sienna, Stripling’s 2015 Ford Transit and McCullough’s 2002 Ford E-250 van were all westbound on South Georgia Parkway approaching the McDonald Street intersection, Cox said, when the Bowen SUV unexpectedly swerved into the eastbound lane.
Bowen then over-corrected to return to the westbound lane and struck the Toyota Sienna van, Cox said. The van then struck Stripling’s van and the McCullough van.
Traffic was rerouted with part of the roadway blocked for approximately an hour as police investigated the accident, Cox said.
The investigation is ongoing, Cox said, and no charges have been made. Investigating the accident is Officer Donna Waters.
