Three people from Valdosta were injured in a Saturday afternoon accident on U.S. 84 west of Waycross while one person, a Blackshear woman, was hurt in a collision on Sunday, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
The driver of one of the vehicles involved in the Saturday accident, Samuel William Boyd, 41, of Valdosta, complained of upper back and neck pain and was transported by Ware County EMS to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment, Royal said.
His two passengers, Anthony Edwards, 14, and Antoinette Boyd, 15, both of Valdosta, complained of minor cuts and shoulder pain and were transported for treatment, Royal said.
A 2002 Honda Odyssey driven eastward by Donna Hopkins Caviness, 52, of Waycross, on U.S. 84 slowed to turn left into a convenience store parking lot at the intersection with New Mexico Avenue at 3:47 p.m. Saturday, Royal said.
The Boyd vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, trailing behind the Odyssey, failed to slow in time and swerved off the road to the right to avoid a collision, Royal said. The Tahoe ran into a ditch, traveled a short distance and flipped over onto its roof, causing extensive damage to the SUV.
The driver of a third vehicle, Chelsea Alexis Brown, 20, of Brunswick, confirmed the details of the accident to the investigating officers which included GSP Trooper Merritt Meeks and Ware County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Johnson.
Meanwhile, one person was injured in an accident that occurred at the intersection of Hatcher Point Road and the Brunswick Highway Sunday evening, said Royal.
A 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Brittany Nicole Higgs-Lee, 19, of Summit Street, was stopped facing northbound on Hatcher Point Road at the red light at the Brunswick Highway, Royal said. A 2002 Pontiac Montana driven by Shaquiledra Johnson, 19, of Lee Street, Blackshear, was stopped behind the Higgs-Lee car.
Johnson told Deputy Zabrae Williams, who investigated the accident, that her foot slipped off the brake pedal, Royal said. Her vehicle collided with the rear of the Higgs-Lee car, causing minor damage at 4:05 p.m.
A passenger in the Johnson vehicle, Carolyn McCray, 65, of Lee Street, Blackshear, complained of neck and back pain and was transported by a Ware County EMS ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment, Royal said.
Neither driver nor other passengers were injured, Royal said.
