BLACKSHEAR — Four people were injured Tuesday in a rear-end collision on U.S. Highway 84 at its intersection with Owens Road, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Both drivers, Kelsey Johnson, 32, of Waycross, and Jeffrey Morgan, 57, of Blackshear, along with a passenger in each vehicle, Zoe Merday, 4, and Cheri Morgan, 50, of Blackshear, were taken by Pierce County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of various injuries they suffered in the 4:10 p.m. accident, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Johnson, driving a Dodge Charger, and Morgan, driving a Chevrolet Astro van, were both headed east on Highway 84 in the inside lane. Dixon said Morgan had stopped and was making a move to turn left onto New School Road. Johnson told lawmen she did not see the car stopped because she was distracted by a child trying to unbuckle her seatbelt. Dixon said at the last instant Johnson swerved to try and avoid the collision but could not avoid making contact with the back of the Morgan van.
The road was clear and the weather at the time was dry, Dixon said.
Trooper Jeffrey Robinson investigated the accident.
