A Fitzgerald teenager was arrested here this morning for a murder that occurred a month ago in Fitzgerald, said a City of Waycross police spokesman.
The boy, 16, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, was wanted on a warrant from the Fitzgerald Police Department charging him with the Aug. 18 murder of Michael Moore, 26, at his home in Fitzgerald, said Waycross Police Capt. Benji Hersey.
The boy was taken into custody by Waycross police around 2 o’clock this morning in the 500 block of Walnut Street, said Hersey.
Hersey said police got an anonymous tip that the boy was at the location. Officers went to the apartment complex and the owner of the apartment gave consent for police to search.
“He actually had the boy to come out and he was arrested without incident,” said Hersey.
He is officially charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault, said Hersey. He was taken to the Ware County jail.
In Fitzgerald, the victim’s wife told police that three men knocked on their door about 9:36 p.m. on Aug. 18 and her husband went outside their Ohoopee Street home to talk to them, according to a report from an Albany news source. She said she then heard a gunshot and her husband stumbled back inside and died.
The teenager remained in the Ware County jail this morning awaiting for transport to arrive from Fitzgerald, Hersey said. He will be taken back to Fitzgerald to face the murder charges.
