M.D. Thrift III
NAHUNTA — Mack David Thrift III, 57, of Nahunta, died Friday morning (Jan. 30, 2015) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Jesup, he was the son of the late Mack David Jr. and the late Erma Juanita McClain Thrift. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl “Cherry” Marquis.
He was a carpenter and served in the United States Army. He was a member of Morton Avenue Baptist Church in Waycross and loved doing carpenter work.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Josh Thrift and Matt and Sarah Thrift, all of Waycross; two grandchildren, Mattilyn Thrift and Joshlyn Thrift, both of Waycross; a brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Harriett Thrift, of Waycross; a sister, Donna Kay Thrift, of Waycross; a niece, Kristy Eunice, of Waycross; two nephews, Scott Eunice, of Waycross, and Jason Williams, of North Carolina; and several other relatives.
Visitation will be held this evening from 6 until 9 o’clock at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock in the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. Grady Allbritton officiating. Burial will follow in Dowling Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Grantham, Jamie Stewart, Jimmy Myers, Paul Smith and Jimmy Bechiom. Honorary pallbearer will be Fred Allbritton.
Pallbearers are asked to be at the chapel Tuesday by 10:30 a.m.

Mae Dell Padgett
Mae Dell Padgett, 94, of Waycross, passed away Sunday night (Feb. 1, 2015) at Baptist Village Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Cilla Hipps Hewett
Cilla Merrell Hipps Hewett, 81, passed away Friday (Jan. 30, 2015) at the Baptist Village Retirement Communities following a long term illness.
She was born in Telfair County but lived most of her life in Waycross. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and was employed with Waycross Molding for more than 20 years.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Moye and Vesta Mims Moye. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harold Hewett, a son, Jimmy Hipps, three brothers, Emory Moye, Homer Moye and Dawson Moye; and two sisters, Ethel Lashley and Rachel Peacock.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Thompson (husband, Kenny), of Waycross, and Joyce Keen (husband, Dennis), of Waycross; a step-son, Carl D. Hewett (wife, Becca), of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Angie Tayag (husband, Jonathan), of Waycross, Kris Keen (wife, Brandy), of Angola, Ind., Ronnie Thompson (wife, Jennifer), of Waycross, Jamie Keen (fiancee, Catherine), of Waycross, and Joshua Thompson (wife, Erica), of Blackshear; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Quinelle Roberson, of Hazlehurst; her special friend, Ann Yawn, of Waycross; a sister-in-law, Iris Hipps, of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 2 o’clock today at Parkway Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery.

Marie Herrin Jacobs
NAHUNTA — Evelyn “Marie” Herrin Jacobs, 78, died Saturday evening (Jan. 31, 2015) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after a short illness.
Born in Nahunta, she was the daughter of Merrick and Mamie Roberts Herrin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, the Rev. Frank Jacobs, a sister, Edith Herrin Ham Highsmith.
She was a very devoted ministers wife, companion and best friend. She enjoyed helping others and always had a smile. She was a member of The Community Christian Church where she and her husband, the Rev. Frank Jacobs, ministered to the community. She loved to bake pies and was an excellent cook.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Danette Jacobs, of Brunswick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Winton Wilson, of Raybon, and Joyce and Gary Strickland, of Hortense; six grandchildren, Adam Wilson, Andy Wilson (Alisha), of Raybon, Emma Steedley (Chris), of Caney Bay, Jamie Tucker (Hank), of Hortense, Colby Strickland (Kristen), of Blackshear, Ari Strickland, of Atlanta; eight great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jake Steedley, of Caney Bay, Ayden and Kinley Tucker, of Hortense, Greyson and Cooper Strickland, of Blackshear, Owen and Evan Wilson, of Raybon; a brother and sister-in-law, Linton and Latrelle Herrin, of Raybon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Juanita “Neet” and Hubert Hewitt, of Raybon, and Mable Cook, of Cartersville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be starting at 5 p.m. today at Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the chapel of Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta, with the Rev. Charles Florey and the Rev. Leon Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Bowers, Joey Bowers, Tanner Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Jamie Chesser and Brad Herrin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the 1954 graduating class. They are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday by 2:30 p.m.

Annabelle T. Thornton
OFFERMAN — The funeral for Annabelle Taylor Thornton, 93, was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Offerman Baptist Church.
Officiating were the Rev. Sammy Chancey and the Rev. James Lightsey.
Interment was in the Offerman Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dewayne Crisp, Timmy Crisp, Robbie Thornton, Kerry Thornton, Scott Thornton and Trae Kicklighter.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lady’s Faith Sunday School Class.
Pearson-Dial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joe ‘Lewis’ Walker
A memorial service for Joe “Lewis” Walker was held Saturday afternoon at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating, and family remembrances by Horace Whitley and Donna Walker.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Glenda Jean King
A funeral for Glenda Jean Glosson King took place Saturday afternoon in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Glosson and the Rev. Billy Glosson officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were Steve Glosson, Benjamin Glosson, Danny Jones, Jerry Dixon, Ryan Fannin and Dustin Glosson.
Honorary pallbearers were the Wacona School class of 1958.

Diane Paulette Leeman
A funeral for Diane Paulette Leeman took place Saturday morning in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Thrift, the Rev. David White and the Rev. Doug Walker officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
