Willie Austin Brooker
NAHUNTA — Willie Jewel Austin Brooker, 85, of Nahunta, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2015) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness.
Born in Brunswick, she was the daughter of Roy Earl Austin and Jewel White Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Audrey “Bill” Brooker, a brother, Isaac “Sonny” Earl Austin Sr., and an infant sister, Margaret Austin.
She worked as a secretary for the Brantley County Board of Education. She was of the Baptist faith, and enjoyed crocheting, baking cakes, painting and reading. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and owned and operated Brooker’s Department Store most of her life.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William Pryce Brooker (Debra), of Hoboken, Martin Duane Brooker (Linda), of Marietta; five grandchildren, Brett Brooker, of Blackshear, Scott Brooker (Tiffany), of Brunswick, Emily Powell (Josh), of Hapeville, Beth Durm (Josh), of Decatur, and Greg Brooker, of Marietta; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Morgan Brooker; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
No visitation will be held.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at King Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Rowell and Brother Bud Jones officiating.
Burial will follow Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery near Waycross.
Pallbearers will be Brett Brooker, Scott Brooker, Greg Brooker, Josh Powell, Josh Durm and Earl Austin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Brantley County Senior Center.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Martha Smart Gordon
Martha Dale Smart Gordon, 66, died Wednesday evening (Feb. 11, 2015) at her residence in Brunswick following an extended illness.
She was born and raised in Alma, but resided in Brunswick the last several years. She was a former bookkeeper with Sun Coast Paper in Brunswick and a member of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Willie L. Smart and Creola Moore Smart. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clearon Smart and Joseph Maurice “Brownie” Smart.
She is survived by her husband, Mitchel Carl “Mickey” Gordon, of Brunswick; a daughter, Misty Renee Gordon Chipman, of Brunswick; two sons, Michael Christian Gordon, of Marietta, and Lyle Anthony Gordon (fiancee, Jessica Jackson), of Brunswick; a grandson, Hunter Austen Chipman, of Brunswick; two sisters, Doreata Holland (husband, Eugene), of Brunswick, and Montine Peacock (husband, Tommy), of Midway; a brother, Shelton Smart (wife, Barbara), of Hortense; seven sisters-in-law, Oliff Smart, June Smart, Ann Dubberly (husband, Harold), Debbie Webb, Barbara Hinton, Teresa Braddock (husband, Jerry), and Dell Wilson (husband, Keith); two brothers-in-law, Duke Gordon (wife, Tonda), and Joe Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8 o’clock.
Members of the Blackshear High School class of 1965 are asked to meet at the funeral home Saturday by 1:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Burch
AXSON — Patricia Ann “Pat” Burch, 64, of Axson, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2015) at the home of her daughter following an extended illness.
She was born March 25, l950 in Jacksonville, Fla., to Arthur George Lott Sr. and Julia Marie Bazemore Lott. She made her home in Atkinson County for most of her life.
She worked at South Georgia College (now South Georgia State College) for 41 years as an assistant librarian. She was a member of the Axson Church of God of Prophecy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Wilkerson, and two brothers, Art Lott and Arvin Lott.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Burch, of Axson; one daughter, Julie Burch Horton (husband, Michael), of Pearson; two grandsons, Riley and Alex Horton; one niece, Sheryl Lewis (husband, Lee), of Willacoochee; one nephew, Boodle Wilkerson (wife, Karen), of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Freddie Wilkerson, of Willacoochee; and a special friend, Sue White, of Pearson.
The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Axson Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Chris Boyd and Bishop Steve Sirmans officiating.
Interment will follow in the Axson Cemetery.

Queen E. Faison
Mother Queen Ester Faison, 92, departed this life Thursday morning (Feb. 12, 2015) at Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
She was a native of Irwin County but lived in Waycross most of her life. Her parents were the late Ben Cooper and Wealthy Session Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Faison Sr., and six sons. She was a faithful member of Faith of God Holiness Church where Bishop Larry Atkinson is pastor.
Survivors include four children, Elijah Faison, Jeannette Robertson (Freddie Sr.), Wealthy Wesley and Dwain Cassaway (Mary); two sisters, Ruth Hicks and Julia Mae Holmes, both of Waycross; a brother, Eddie Lee Cooper Sr. (Cora), of Walterboro, S.C.; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Friends are being received at her daughter’s residence, Wealthy Wesley, 511 Ware St.

Barbara L. Robinson
NAHUNTA — Barbara Lynne Marshall Robinson, 64, of Nahunta, died early Wednesday morning (Feb. 11, 2015) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after a brief illness.
Born in Pleasantville, N.J., she was the daughter of Shirley Leeds Battaglia.
She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved crafting and gardening.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-laws, Jim and Dana Miller, of Nahunta, and Chris and Amy Miller, of Gray; a daughter, Barbara Klein, of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Kyle Klein, Emily Miller, Austin Miller, Reese Miller and Mayson Miller; four sisters, Jo Ann Roussel, of Waynesville, Mary Michel, Linda Todd and Lucy Grubb, all of New Jersey; a special friend, Deborah Griner, of Nahunta; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A visitation was to be held today from 11 a.m. until noon at Hickox Baptist Church.
A memorial service was scheduled for noon today at Hickox Baptist Church with the Rev. Vance Colley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a memorial in her honor to be made to Marshland Credit Union for Barbara Robinson.

Mikel M. Bohannon
Mikel Lue McCune Bohannon, 72, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Tuesday morning (Feb. 10, 2015) at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup following a sudden illness.
Born April 7, 1942 in Linden, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Shirley Leon McCune and Goldie Rosetta Jenkins Burkehammer. She lived in Daytona Beach since 1954 where she worked as a baker and dietician at Halifax Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Bohannon.
Survivors include her four children, Rosetta Sapp (husband, Dexter), of Blackshear, Loretta Brinkley, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Cindy Lou Griffin, of Blackshear, and Jimmy L. Bohannon, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Thornton (husband, Winton), of Blackshear; one brother, Daniel McCune, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Rigdon Roberts, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Jane Terry (husband, Albert), of California; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation. A private time of remembrance will be held at a later date.

Pearlie J. Howard
Pearlie Jean Howard, 62, died Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2015) at her residence.
She was a native of Homerville but lived in Waycross for many years. Her parents were the late George and Bertha Ellis.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Lee Howard Sr., of Waycross; three children, Levale Terrell Howard, Cassandra Howard and Henry Lee Howard Jr. (Kendra), all of Waycross; and other relatives.
Friends are being received at the Howard residence, 801 Naomi St., Apartment 911.

A memorial service for Lilly Bell Crews was held Thursday morning at Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Hickox officiating.
Burial followed in Hephzibah Cemetery in Dixie Union.
