Violet Elizabeth Smith
Violet Elizabeth Smith, 83, died Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 10, 2015) at the Woodstock Nursing Home and Rehab Center of Woodstock, surrounded by her children and family members.
She was a native of Douglas, but lived most of her life in Waycross. She resided in Woodstock since 2007. She was the daughter of the late Edward Joseph “E.J.” Gamel and Violet Clemens Gamel. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Gamel and Truman Gamel.
She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and loved to cook.
Survivors include two sons, Cleve Ronell “Ronnie” Smith (wife, Donna), of Canton, and Benny Donell “Donnie” Smith (wife, Carolyn), of Niskayuna, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Ronell Smith (wife, Holly), of Canton, Daniel Smith, of Woodstock, Jason Smith (wife, Shannon), of Youngsville, N.C., Ryan Smith (wife, Angela), of Spartanburg S.C., Kyle Smith, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Grant Smith, of Niskayuna, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Jamestown United Methodist Church, 2055 Vann Road, Waycross, Ga. 31503.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Friday at Music Funeral Home.

Louis Barrett
Louis Barrett, 80, of 5135 Tammee St., Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning (Feb. 6, 2015) at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a cement finisher by profession and loved to fish and travel to Rome to visit relatives.
He was born in Rome, Feb. 16, 1934, son of the late Lucille Ware Barrett and Clay Barrett. He was educated in the schools of Rome, where he became the owner and operator of Louis Barrett Construction Company.
Left to cherish his memories are daughters, Tonya McAllister (Author), and Carol Orange, all of Waycross, and Natasha Bell (Lester) and Nakia Holder, all of Orange Park, Fla., Laquita Hardy (Michael), of Jacksonville, Fla., Latrell O’Hara, of Fort Knox, Ky., and Glenda Lewis (Simon), of Blackshear; sons, Louis Barrett Jr. and Marcus Barrett, both of Rome, Rodney O’Hara, (Tamesha), of El Paso, Texas, and Julian Taylor, of Blackshear; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; one very special friend, Janice Taylor; and special neighbor, Teresa Baker.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rainge Memorial Funeral Home, 505 Ware St., Blackshear.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. James A.M.E. Church on Lee Street in Blackshear. The Rev. Gerald Copeland, pastor, will offer words of comfort.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
The cortege will assemble at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
Family and friends are being received at the residence.

Mikel Lue Bohannon
Mikel Lue McCune Bohannon, 72, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Tuesday morning (Feb. 10, 2015) at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, following a short illness.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hart Funeral Home of Blackshear.

A funeral for Martha Davis Everett was held Wednesday afternoon at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kit Brinson officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
