Georgia Department of Transportation crews will begin resurfacing the U.S. 1 Business route through Waycross Saturday, a 1.1-mile long project.
The work should take approximately 30 days, contingent on weather conditions. The majority of the work will be done on Saturdays and Sundays to minimize the impact on commuters during work days, a spokesman said.
Minor delays should be expected on U.S. 1 Business (Plant Avenue) from Carswell Avenue to Ossie Davis Parkway (formerly known as State Street), extending beyond Blackshear Avenue.
The project was awarded to East Coast Asphalt, LLC, of Douglas, for $569,963. The contract completion date is June 30.
In the work zone extreme caution is necessary, the spokesman said. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this and all work zones.
Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the work. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route, if possible, said the spokesman.
