Ware County Fire Department personnel worked for hours Wednesday to extinguish a fire that wound up consuming a house, a barn, a camper and a motor vehicle at a residential area on Dixie Avenue in the Dixie Union community, said Capt. Joe McPhaul.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 10:54 a.m. Wednesday. McPhaul said the first truck arrived at 11:04 followed by three other pieces of equipment and 11 personnel.
Nobody was injured but the house and its surroundings were a total loss, McPhaul said. He said it has not yet been determined how the fire started but that once it got going, it spread quickly.
The monetary damage caused by the fire was estimated at about $160,000 for the structure and $65,000 for the contents of the house and barn, said Capt. McPhaul.
Capt. Matthew Grantham was in charge of the fire units.
The last truck cleared the scene at 3:52 p.m.
McPhaul did not know the name of the property owner.
