The Waycross Area Community Theatre (WACT) will open the 2015-2016 play season Thursday with a comedy, “Play On!”
Show dates are Oct. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. and one Sunday matinee, Oct. 4, at 2:30 p.m.
The play replaces “The Beverly Hillbillies  on the WACT schedule.
“We simply could not entice enough people to audition for ‘Hillbillies,’” said a WACT spokesman. “I suppose too much time has passed since the TV show and a generation or two have grown up not knowing about Jed, Granny, Elly Mae and Banker Drysdale!”
The replacement show, “Play On,” tells the hilarious story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script.
Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the nearly disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does.
When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain call, the audience is treated to a madcap climax to a thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter.
The show is being directed by Pam Fields and features a talented cast of actors that includes Kayla Dixon, Brenda Luke, Allen Hamilton, Niki Spivey, Michelle Lagoueyte, Jody Rollins, Andre’ Lagoueyte, Brittany Peacock, Mamie Jackson and Anita Lynn. Mamie Jackson is serving as stage manager.
Tickets are $10 and reservations may be made by calling the box office at 283-2161.
