Four people were injured Thursday when a car ran off Brunel Street and slammed into a Georgia Power pole, splintering the pole, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
The driver, Caleb Howard, 23, of Waycross, complained of injury but declined treatment and transport to the hospital, said Cox.
His three passengers, Patricia Howard, 24, of Waycross, Preston Luke, 20, of Blackshear, and Aidyn Howard, 4, of Waycross, were all transported by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of various injuries, said Cox.
Driving a 2003 Mazda car, Caleb Howard was headed north on Brunel Street when he was momentarily distracted and looked away from the road. Cox said he told police that when he looked back up, he was headed straight for the power pole. After the collision, Georgia Power was called and workers replaced the pole, Cox said.
Howard was charged with failure to maintain a lane, violation of child restraint laws and driving a vehicle with no tag, said Cox.
