A Waycross man was arrested Wednesday about 10:55 p.m. as he was caught in the act of burglarizing a business in the 800 block of South Augusta Avenue, said Ware County Sheriff’s Detective Neil Skerratt.
Curtis Thrift, 21, of the 3000 block of Virginia Avenue, was found hiding under an RV at the business, said Skerratt. He was taken to the Ware County jail where he was charged with burglary.
Skerratt said Detective James Cox was patrolling the area and saw a truck outside the business that was unfamiliar. He contacted the business owners and was told that no one was supposed to be on the premises.
Cox called for backup and Sgt. Robert Weiss and Detective Tron Lewis responded. Skerratt said Cox entered through the rear door of the business while Weiss and Lewis entered from the front. Thrift at one point slammed a door in their faces, he said.
A second suspect was sought at the location but was not found. Skerratt said lawmen believe they know the man’s identity and will be looking for him.
Entry was made by prying open the rear roll-up door, Skerratt said.
