A hooded teen-ager who had broken into a local residence awoke a sleeping man in a bedroom there late Monday morning before bolting from the home, said police. The 16-year-old boy was arrested minutes after the burglary in the 500 block of Cherry Street was reported, said Waycross Police Capt. Benji Hersey.
Police responding to the call found the suspect coming out of a wooded area approximately a block away from the house, Hersey said.
A cousin of the owner of the house who was visiting from out of town was awakened when the young black male wearing a black hoodie entered the bedroom at about 10 a.m. Monday, Hersey said. Realizing he’d been detected, the burglar fled the house.
Police found in the wooded area a plastic garbage bag containing items stolen from the house and a black hoodie.
The suspect was arrested, Hersey said.
