A Ware County man was seriously injured Wednesday morning and a woman also injured when a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle crashed on Needham Road, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Anthony Alan Bennett, 50, of 2321 17th St., was taken from the scene by a helicopter and flown to UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla., where he was listed in “very critical” condition, said Royal, with head injuries and internal injuries.
His passenger, Emily McClain, 24, of U.S. 84, Blackshear, was taken by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of head and unspecified injuries, said Royal.
Driving a 2014 Polaris RZR 800, Bennett was riding on Needham Road, on and off private property, when the vehicle went out of control and overturned, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Royal said when deputies arrived at the 17th Street residence, Bennett was still seated behind the wheel of the vehicle.
Deputy Frank Moran is heading up the investigation into the 4:02 a.m. crash, which is still open and ongoing, Royal said.
