Shirley Gordon Wright
Shirley Gordon Wright, 86, of Waycross, died Monday night (April 25, 2016) at Waycross Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Jesup to the late Henley Merle Gordon and Edith Hendry Gordon. She attended Florida State University and worked as a real estate agent for Monroe Realty until her retirement in 2002.
She was an avid golfer, bridge player and gardener. She was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, Okefenokee Ladies Golf Association and First Presbyterian Church. More than anything she loved her family, especially any time she was able to spend playing with her great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Arnette “Buck” Wright Jr., and a sister, Maxine Gordon Parham.
She is survived by three children, Cheryl Wright Christopher, of Waycross, J.A. “Chip” Wright III (wife, Phyllis), of Atlanta, Maxine Wright Boyd (husband, Bob), of Easley, S.C.; six grandchildren, Kelli Christopher Cox (husband, Stephen), Katy Christopher Varnadore (husband, Danny), Rebekah Wright Latham (husband, Conor), Christen Wright Thorpe (husband, David), Hannah Boyd, Lauren Boyd; four great-grandchildren, Blakely Varnadore, Ryland Cox, Scarlett Latham and Iris Thorpe; a cousin, Ann Fairley, of Waycross; and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Avanell M. Steedley
HOMERVILLE — Avanell Melton Steedley, 93, passed away Tuesday (April 26, 2016) at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Clinch County to the late Israel Greene Melton and Nancy Elizabeth Deloach Melton. She worked at the Fargo School lunch room for 16 years and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Fargo Evangelistic Church and the WGM Prayer Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Farley Steedley Sr., one daughter, Latrelle Steedley Griffis Vinson, two sons, Henry Earl Stecdley Sr. and Farley Steedley Jr., two sisters, Juanita Cribbs and Bertha Douglas, and three brothers, Farris Melton, Aaron Melton and Acline Melton.
Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, LaNell and Solomon Tolle, of Homerville, and Louise and Glenn McGuire, of Mexia, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sarah Steedley, of Jennings, Fla., Elmer and Mary Ann Steedley, of Ailey, Ga., and Curtis and Judy Steedley, of Jasper, Fla.; two sisters, Nezzie Cribbs, of Fargo, and Clennie Williams, of Homerville; one brother, Vergil Melton, of Homerville; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Melton, of Homerville; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church in Statenville.
Interment will be in the Wayfare Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.
The body will be carried to the church one hour prior to the service.

Mary Jane Thigpen, 64, died Monday (April 25, 2016) at Memorial Health in Savannah following a sudden illness.

A funeral service for Peggy June Steedley Lynn was held Tuesday morning at Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Virlon Griner officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stan Alderman, Mark Bowen, Neal Bowen, Trevis Guy, Bryon Lynn and Michael Ray.
Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
