BLACKSHEAR — A Blackshear man was killed Tuesday morning in a work-related accident at the Ace Pole yard, according to a report from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Robert Victoriano, 35, an Ace employee, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Pierce County Sheriff Ramsey Bennett.
“They were loading logs into the kiln to be kiln-dried and the victim was somehow caught and crushed between some logs,” said Bennett. “They have the logs on cars to be pushed into the kiln and somehow he was crushed in the accident.”
Bennett said the sheriff’s department conducted a thorough investigation Tuesday and that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was to be at the site today to conduct its own investigation into the accident.
The accident occured between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Bennett said.
Ace Pole is an industrial manufacturer that has operated for many years just off U.S. Highway 84 in the vicinity of the Hacklebarney Road and Midway Church Road intersection.
The road in front of Ace Pole is Timber Lane.
