Another good blood drive was held Monday at the Waycross Exchange Club fairgrounds.
A total of 162 people signed in. Had they all been able to successfully give, the Red Cross goal of 150 donations would have been surpassed. However, there were only 136 units contributed as several would-be donors were ruled ineligible to donate for a variety of reasons.
Oftentimes a dosage of a particular medication will render a would-be donor ineligible for a 24-hour period to give. Another common disqualifier is if a person’s iron-blood content measures low on the day of the drive.
Many donors took home door prize cash, thanks to an anonymous gift of $400 together with a  $300 contribution by Wade Bennett, a candidate for sheriff of Ware County.
Winners of $100 were Todd Hyde and Jordan Simmons. Winning $50 were Valerie Hurtado and Jonathan Hickox.
There were many donors taking home $20 each:
Laurie Calvin, Courtney Lee, Barbara McFarland, Christie Williams, Mary Anne Scarborough, Caleb Mingo, Anita Lee, Roy Deal Jr.,                Rickey Pitts Jr., Judy Lucas, Thomas W. Vickery, Jack Jones, Joey San Nicolas, Paul Gray, William Denton, Nadine Colvin, Dee Claborn, Charles Griffin, Brenda Inman and a donor who did not supply his printed name for the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers.
Other prize winners included (Wong’s) George Riggs, (Captain Joe’s) Christina Lee, (Dick’s Wings) Eva Jane Thomas, (Extreme Car Wash) Becky Hickox and (Southern Belle’s Salon and Spa) Pam Taylor.
The next monthly Waycross Exchange Club community Red Cross blood drive is on the schedule for May 23, 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
